Taken from an original antique chromolithograph published in the late 1800’s. Most algues live near to shore and need light to flourish. They have great commercial value in that they can be used for manure and many are edible. Agar that is extracted from algues is used as a gelling additive in the food industry. They are also becoming important to the drugs industry for the use in medicine.
